How fast is fast ?~
Check your manual for the highest speed rated memory card your digital camera accepts. Many memory cards have a speed rating such as 4X, 12X, 40X. The higher the rating, the faster a digital camera writes (saves) images to the card. Higher speed can also mean higher cost for the card.
For most camera's the standard range is sufficient.~~~20081~20085~~

Is a faster card better ?~

Purchasing a card with a speed rating higher than recommended for your digital camera will in most cases not increase the speed at which images are saved to the card. Example :-  If your camera uses as it's maximum a 12X Speed Standard CompactFlash card, purchasing one of the Ultrarated 40X speed cards will generally not improve write performance when taking pictures.

However, some people purchase the higher speed cards for the following reason:

In most cases reading from the card via USB is sufficiently fast enough for most home users, Ultra / High Speed memory is for professional to allow faster read speeds of your pictures to disk or media.

However !~

Remember when purchasing a card for your camera today, this may notnecessarily be the same camera you will be using in 2 years time, but the media may well come in handy for future apparatus. In these cases it might be worthwhile considering purchasing faster memory and investing in the future technology.
